ABOUT STEPZ

​

Stepz is now a renowned Dancing School in the Midlands and North West Area, specifically in Cheshire, Shropshire and Staffordshire. The school was established in 1970, it was originally called the Gainsborough and classes ran in Stoke-On-Trent. When classes opened in Market Drayton there was rebranding in the 90’s and the dance school name changed to Stepz. Classes now continue to run in Market Drayton Town, as well as in the Cheshire Villages of Haslington and Alsager. Stepz is a competitive dancing school and has lots of options for children of all ages, and adults who love to dance. Whether you would like to compete locally or nationally, take IDTA examinations, perform in the annual show or just dance for fun, then they have a class for you. Kerry Lisa Gillick - Business Owner / Principal Teacher

Kerry was born into the dance world, her Grandad, Bill Oakes was world Rock n Roll champion, along with his wife Rosemary they ran a very successful dancing business since the early 70's. Her mother was also a Latin and ballroom dancer, and a figure skater in her younger years. Kerry started dancing at the tender age of 2, joining in the dance classes held at her grandparents ballroom in Stoke on Trent.

 

As a young child, Kerry attended Rock n Roll, Disco & Ballroom classes aswell as Ballet, performed on stage in shows and was in a gymnastics squad. She trained at some of the most prestigious dancing schools both in the Midland & North West areas, she competed throughout the UK as a top championship dancer from the age of 6. She won many titles, including the Great British and European Champion. Kerry has been a showgirl in the Canary Islands, she has danced cabaret shows on Cruise ships, has been a live dancer for famous artists and DJ's, performed in music videos, and was a dancer and magicians assistant touring China in 2009. Kerry choreographs the Stepz annual shows. 

 

Kerry took amateur IDTA (INTERNATIONAL DANCE TEACHERS ASSOCIATION) examinations in Freestyle, Rock n Roll, Latin, Ballroom, Ballet and Jazz, and then went on to gain a distinction for her professional IDTA examination and was admitted into membership as an Associate of the Freestyle Faculty. Kerry is also qualified Acro teacher training with ACROTRIX and a member of the ADFP (ASSOCIATION OF DANCE FREESTYLE PROFESSIONALS).

Kerry is a qualified Fitness Instructor and has a GSCE and A-level in dance studies, a diploma in Life Coaching and is a CTAA Accredited Yoga Teacher. Whilst in lockdown Kerry successfully completed online courses in Infection Prevention and control (including COVID-19), Child Psychology, Plyometrics: High Intensity Fitness and Yoga for Children: Music and Activities. She also furthered her knowledge by completing multiple training modules with world renowned dance technique specialists Australias RadarTechnique.

 

Kerry provides a variety of themed parties for children, including Dance & Pamper Party’s. She is a qualified and insured make up artist and has taught for a number of dance schools in the UK and overseas, although she has found herself back home, where her heart is, as the Principal of what was originally her Grandparents school of dance in Market Drayton. In January 2016 Kerry set up a STEPZ school closer to home in Haslington, then most recently running classes in Shavington, Cheshire.

Kerry is fully insured and DBS checked.

Chloe Pugh - Classroom Assistant / Student Teacher

​

Chloe began dancing with Stepz at the age of four at an after-school club and then became an official Stepz student attending on a Saturday morning. Chloe has completed her first IDTA teaching examination.

 As a student dance teacher Chloe supports Kerry in Market Drayton, Alsager and Haslington.

Chloe assists with Stepz Pamper Party’s and is a qualified and insured beautician and nail technician. DBS checked.

Heidi Pryce - Administration 

​

Heidi is a Stepz Dance Mum who started helping the Stepz team officially in November 2019.

 

Heidi's role includes supporting Kerry, Chloe and the team where required. Helping to ensure the smooth and successful running of the Stepz business. Duties include processing invoices, creating and maintaining spreadsheets, including holidays, Stepz events diary, our new for 2019 loyalty rewards game 'Play your Stepz Right' where points win prizes,

and various other administrative tasks. DBS checked.

Sarah Brodie - Teacher / Acro Specialist

​

Sarah joined Stepz at the start of Summer 2022.

Sarah is certified Acrobatics Arts teacher and is extremely passionate about teaching Acro and passing on her knowledge to the next generation of dancers in the most engaging, effective and safe way.

Sarah has trained for 14 years with British Gymnastics as an artistic gymnast competing nationally before transitioning to competitive dance where she competed globally gaining world championship titles. After competing, Sarah went on to train professionally at Bird College in London where she graduated in 2021 with a BA Hons degree in professional dance and musical theatre. DBS checked.
